Dementia is the progressive decline of cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. For understanding dementia problem, the affected areas may in of memory, attention, language and problem solving, especially in the later stages of the condition, affected persons maybe disoriented in time, not knowing what days, weeks, months or years, it does not know where they do not know who they are.
Dementia Symptoms can be classified as either reversible or irreversible according to the etiology of the disease. Less than 10% of cases of dementia are reversible. Dementia is a non-specific term that encompasses many disease processes, such as fever is attributable to many causes.
The first symptoms of dementia are often formed by changes in personality or behavior. Often, dementia may be the first evident during an episode of delirium. There is a higher prevalence of developing dementia in the end people who live in an acute episode of confusion while the hospital.
Dementia can affect language, comprehension, motor skills, short-term memory, the ability to identify objects commonly used, reaction time, personality traits, operation and executive. Even in the absence of signs of general intellectual decline, delusions are common in dementia (15-56% of incidence rate of Alzheimer’s type, and 27-60% in the incidence rate of multi-infarct dementia). Often these delusions take the form of delusions monothematic as mirror self-misidentification.
The elderly may also react with symptoms similar to dementia to surgery, infections, sleep deprivation, irregular food, dehydration, and loneliness, change of address or personal crise, dont be late for dementia treatment. This is called delirium, and many if not most patients with dementia have delirium on top of the physiological dementia, adding to these symptoms.
